We are the Open Source Working Committee.
We were formed in April 2022 to make it easier for newcomers to coding and Open Source find their way to the right Open Source project.
Our goals are to help contributors learn and advance their skills and careers through Open Source, and help Open Source projects get more done.
We are passionate believers in Open Source …
… for personal growth and skill development,
… to power 96% of all software, and
… to make connections with amazing people.
Today, the OSWC has three components:
- Resources for beginners and advanced beginners to learn more about Open Source: https://www.oswc.is/resources
- Pre-built collections of Open Source projects suitable for newcomers: https://www.oswc.is/collections
- A searchable database of Open Srouce projects suitable for newcomers: https://www.oswc.is/search-projects
The Committee is started by Matt, Emma, Himanshu, and Rizèl, to begin with, but we hope to have many more join us.
The Founding Team is a volunteer group committed meeting the standards and ethos of inclusive, equitable Open Source communities.
In our actions we will strive to live up to the Open Source project metrics created by CHAOSS, a Linux Foundation project focused on creating analytics and metrics to help define community health.
There are four ways you can help this effort.
First, please spread the word and follow our Twitter feed.
Second, if you have great articles or lists of open source projects, let us know.
Third, if you know Maintainers who would like to add their projects, please send them to the form. The process only takes a minute. https://www.oswc.is/submit-a-project
Fourth, if you’d like to volunteer your time, please let us know.
We hope that this effort gives back to the Open Source community and contributors. And we’d love to hear what you think.
Onward!
